If traditional contact lenses haven’t worked for you due to unique vision challenges, Dr. Tyler McFadenO.D. specializes in custom specialty lens fittings designed to meet your individual needs. These lenses are particularly helpful for those with keratoconus, post-surgical or irregular corneas, severe dry eye, or complex astigmatism. With extensive experience in fitting specialty lenses, Dr. McFaden is dedicated to helping patients achieve clear, comfortable vision—even in more complicated cases.

Rigid Gas-Permeable Contact Lenses

Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses differ from soft contacts in that they don’t contain water, making them more resistant to debris buildup and better for dry eye sufferers. Their firm structure allows them to maintain shape on the eye, resulting in stable, crisp vision throughout the day.
RGP lenses are also effective for correcting corneal irregularities such as scarring or abnormal curvature. With proper maintenance, they typically last at least a year before needing replacement.

Scleral Contact Lenses

Scleral lenses are larger gas-permeable contacts that arch over the cornea and rest on the sclera, or white part of the eye. This design creates a smooth optical surface and provides excellent vision correction for patients with keratoconus, significant corneal scarring, or severe dry eye.

The lens holds a layer of fluid between itself and the cornea, which offers long-lasting comfort throughout the day.

Myopia Control Contact Lenses

Designed for children and teens, myopia control lenses can help slow the progression of nearsightedness by shifting peripheral light to land in front of the retina instead of behind it. This light refocusing technique may help slow eye growth, reducing the degree of myopia over time. Dr. McFaden and Dr. Patel offer customized myopia control options tailored to each patient’s needs.
