Montgomery Eye Physicians, Alabama - HOME

A key component in quality eye surgery is technology. The mission at our Laser Center is to provide our patients with the highest level of care possible. As part of that goal, we believe we must offer the very latest in technology.

IntraLase
Based on our commitment to provide the very latest in laser vision correction, Montgomery Eye Physicians was the first to offer IntraLase in Alabama. Commonly referred to as "blade-free LASIK", the IntraLase Method uses advanced computer technology to create the corneal flap.

The IntraLase laser provides a greater degree of safety and precision while offering patients predictably better visual results. This state-of-the-art technology gives LASIK candidates significantly more confidence when considering laser vision correction.

  • IntraLase is the first blade-free laser technology for performing the first step of the LASIK procedure: creating the corneal flap.
  • Prior to IntraLase, this first step was done manually using a hand-held device with an oscillating metal razor blade, called a microkeratome. While LASIK has proven to be a successful and relatively safe procedure, the majority of complications with LASIK arise from the use of microkeratomes.
  • IntraLase makes LASIK safer by replacing the hand-held microkeratome blade with the computer-guided precision of a laser, virtually eliminating severe sight-threatening blade-related LASIK complications as a result.
  • IntraLase delivers micron-level accuracy more than 100 times greater than a microkeratome.

The VISX S4IR Laser
The VISX S4IR is an excimer laser by VISX,® a pioneer in the development of excimer laser systems. The S4IR laser requires a shorter procedure time and contains the ActiveTrak,™ a sophisticated eye tracking system that can capture all three dimensions of intra-operative eye movements without dilation of the pupils.

The main benefit of the VISX S4IR laser is that it produces the smoothest surface on the cornea after the procedure. This promotes faster healing which results in better vision. The S4IR laser is FDA approved to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

The 3D ActiveTrak® EyeTracker tracks the horizontal, vertical and up and down motion of the eye in real time. By verifying the correct position of your eye before every laser pulse, the laser can safely and precisely control the placement of each laser pulse.

CustomVue - The Next Generation in LASIK
Our CustomVue procedure uses Wavefront scanning technology to evaluate virtually every imperfection with your vision. Wavefront scanning, originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space, provides 25 times more precision than standard measurements for glasses or contact lenses.

This detailed information allows the doctor to make a virtual "fingerprint" of your eye and customize a treatment plan specifically for you. This can result in a level of vision excellence often better than the vision achieved with traditional glasses or contact lenses. Most patients attain 20/40 vision or better, and some even achieve better than 20/20.

Just like your fingerprint, the information fed into the laser is unique to your eyes only. Each of your eyes will receive their own custom laser procedure, with no two custom procedures being identical.
