Sanders M. Benkwith, M.D.
Comprehensive Ophthalmology
Dr. Benkwith received his undergraduate degree from the University of the South and his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1973. He served an internship and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Utah Medical Center where he performed retina physiology research under Thomas Ogden, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Benkwith joined his father, the late Karl B. Benkwith, M.D., in practice in 1977. Dr. Benkwith is board-certified in ophthalmology and is a past president of the Montgomery County Medical Society. A native of Montgomery, Dr. Benkwith and his wife Linda have two grown children and two grandchildren. An avid golfer, Dr. Benkwith enjoys a variety of sporting and church activities.

Tom Lyle Mitchell, Jr., M.D.
Cataract and Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Mitchell is a cum laude graduate in biomedical engineering from the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his Medical Degree, cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1981. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Prior to completing a residency in ophthalmology at the Eye Foundation Hospital, UAB Medical Center, Birmingham, he practiced as an emergency room physician. Dr. Mitchell is board-certified in ophthalmology and joined Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1987. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology and specializes in cataract and eyelid surgery, having performed functional blepharoplasty and no-stitch cataract procedures for the past 20 plus years. Originally from Birmingham, Dr. Mitchell and his wife Darby have three grown children. He enjoys fly fishing, tennis, gardening and playing the guitar.

John L. Swan, M.D.
Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery
Dr. Swan graduated cum laude in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University and received his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1985. He completed his internship at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, and his residency in ophthalmology at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Schools Affiliated Hospitals in Dallas. Board-certified in ophthalmology, he served on the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center before joining Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1991. Dr. Swan has over 20 years of cornea, cataract and refractive surgery experience, including DSAEK, corneal transplantation, no-stitch cataract surgery, radial and astigmatic keratotomy, ASA, refractive lensectomy, and LASIK using Advanced CustomVue technology. As one of the most experienced laser surgeons in the country, Dr. Swan has performed refractive surgery on members of his own family, office staff and physician colleagues, and twice has been named one of the Top 100 LASIK Surgeons in the U.S. among a network of over 1,000 physicians. Originally from Mobile, Dr. Swan and his wife Pamela have two children. He enjoys sailing and golf.

In C. Shin, M.D.
Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery
Dr. Shin graduated magna cum laude in engineering from the University of Alabama – Huntsville and received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1999. He completed his internship at Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham and his residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans. In addition, he completed a Cornea fellowship at the Dean A. McGee Eye Institute at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. Board-certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Shin’s focus includes DSAEK, corneal transplantation, no-stitch cataract surgery, radial and astigmatic keratotomy, ASA, refractive lensectomy, LASIK using Advanced CustomVue technology, and glaucoma surgery. As an adjunct to his clinical practice, Dr. Shin also performs therapeutic and cosmetic blepharoplasty, BOTOX® therapy, and cosmetic Juvéderm™ treatments. Originally from Korea, Dr. Shin is a naturalized citizen. He and his wife Lee are the busy parents of triplets.

Michael B. Bradford, O.D.
Comprehensive Optometry/Contact Lens Specialist
Dr. Bradford received his Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University Montgomery in 1976 and completed post-graduate work in 1980. In 1984 he received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to joining Montgomery Eye Physicians in 1997, Dr. Bradford was in private practice in Montgomery. He is board-certified in optometry. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Bradford grew up in Montgomery, where he and his wife Alicia reside. The father of three grown children, Dr. Bradford enjoys music, especially playing the guitar, and baseball.

Timothy M. Meadows, O.D.
Primary Care Optometry
Dr. Meadows received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Upon graduation he entered the four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, where he attained his Doctorate of Optometry in June 1999. He served internships at both the Tuscaloosa Veterans Administration Medical Center and Montgomery Eye Physicians, with a focus on primary care optometry and ocular disease. Board-certified in optometry, Dr. Meadows practices at Montgomery Eye Physicians – Prattville. He is a member of the Alabama Optometric Association. A native of Prattville, Dr. Meadows is an active church member and an avid sports and outdoor enthusiast. He, his wife Kim, and their two young children reside in Prattville.

Crisse F. Holman, O.D.
Family Care Optometry
Dr. Holman graduated summa cum laude from UAB, where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and subsequently completed a residency in Family Practice Optometry. Board-certified in optometry, Dr. Holman is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alabama Optometric Association.
Born and raised in Headland, Alabama, Dr. Holman now lives in Montgomery with her husband, Bryan, an optometrist, and daughter, Emma. While eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest member of their family in October, she enjoys reading, watching movies, spending time with her family, and being involved in her church and community.
